Meet some of the people in the Church

Andrew Thomson is the Pastor of the church. He's married to Helen and they have three children.

Andrew came to Kesgrave Baptist Church in April 2010, from Mitchley Hill Evangelical Church in Surrey.

Andrew studied Psychology & Philosophy at University College, Oxford, where he became a Christian. He later studied for the ministry through the FIEC Prepared for Service course.

Mike Brierley is an elder in the church.

Cecil Cousins is a life elder in the church. He is married to Marion and they have two married children - a son Graham and a daughter Hillary.

Cecil says: "Before retirement I spent many years in the animal feeds business producing and supplying feeding stuff to the farming community mainly in Suffolk and Norfolk. For a considerable time this was carried on through my own company.

"My interests outside the church are varied, I love reading, doing crosswords, singing (now not very well) and playing the cornet (rather badly). I am a lover of most kinds of sporting activities, although now as a watcher than a participator."

John Eyers

John Eyers is a life elder in the church. John, and Maureen his wife, came to live in Ipswich after retirement from being the pastor of a Baptist church.  They have an adult son and daughter and enjoy visiting them (in Sussex and Cambridge) when they can.

Before going into the ministry in his 40s John was a Secondary School Teacher in Grammar and Comprehensive Schools, and then a Senior Lecturer in New Testament in a Teacher Training College in Portsmouth.  During that time he became the lay pastor of a church in Gosport and also did some voluntary work teaching Greek and New Testament at Moorlands Bible College.

John’s favourite pastime is reading and also he enjoys walking by the sea.

Paul Mickelsen is the church treasurer and a deacon in the church.

Edward Havell is a deacon in the church. He is married to Janine and has 2 daughters, Sophie and Cara. He has lived in Kesgrave since 1996.

He has worked in the construction industry for over 45 years with 13 years in southern Africa. Work has often involved a working week away from home.

He enjoys escaping from the working week by spending short periods kayaking on the local rivers and estuaries.

Erik Tetelaar is a deacon in the church.

Elva Robinson is a deacon in the church. She is Jamaican by birth and descent.

As a pre-teen child she immigrated to England in May 1960, after the death of her mother. She lived with and was brought up by her older sister who was a nurse.

The major part of her life was spent in Ipswich, this included schooling and later work, after qualifying as a nurse and midwife. In the early seventies she moved to Nova Scotia Canada and worked there as a nurse for a year and a half.

Returning to England in the late seventies, she moved to Rushmere St. Andrews in the late eighties, and soon began attending KBC. After many years of attending KBC, she finally and completely accepted Christ as her personal saviour.

She was baptised on Easter Sunday 23rd March 2008.

Elva says, "I am now walking and trusting in Christ alone. I know his grace is sufficient for me, and nothing compares to the promise I have in him."
